FOS Innovation Award

Submission
Entries are invited for the annual FOS Innovation Award recognising outstanding, innovative achievements. The aim of the award is to recognise groups or individuals who have created an innovative resource or project that may be used by healthcare professionals or patients to improve care in trauma and orthopaedic surgery.

Projects may include, and are not limited to: quality improvement projects, research, apps, websites, books, videos projects, educational projects for surgeons, courses or events. Essentially anything done to improve things in trauma and orthopaedic surgery.

Entries of no more than 500 words should be emailed to abstracts@futureorthopaedicsurgeons.com

Please use the subject heading 'FOS Innovation Award’ in your email and include your full name, stage of training and institution in the body of the email.

Entries will be judged and shortlisted applicants will be asked to give a short podium presentation at FOSC with an overall winner announced on the day.

The highest rated submissions will be awarded certificates and high scoring entries will be published in JUTO.

Entry Guidelines
 
• The Prize is open to undergraduate medical students and junior doctors up to CT/ST2 level.
• Only entries that are submitted via email, in word format to the published email address will be accepted. Submissions made in PDF format will not be accepted.
• Entries should be no longer than 500 words
• Entries should be submitted in Arial size 12 font, excluding title.
• The word limit does not include the published title/question or references
• References should be presented as footnotes and endnotes
• Entries will be judged by the FOS Committee together with orthopaedic surgeons
• Applicants must be FOS members at the time of submission

Entry Structure
• The submission should be structured to cover the following headings: the problem you identified, how you tackled the problem, the results of your efforts and what you have done subsequently.

Entries will be judged on the following attributes:
• Originality
• Scope of project
• Benefit to training and patient care
• Reflection on the project

No abstract that exceeds the word count will be accepted
